The Dark Side of War, How Losing Sides In Any Modern War/Battle are Using Social Media To Cast Victors In A Negative Light

For those of you whom might be unfamiliar with me or my previous work, I spent the better parts of July 2016 to February 2018 as a War reporter, primarily covering ongoing conflicts around South Sudan, Somalia, Gaza, Syria and Iraq. In fact, a large part of the reason why I shifted my writing towards hacking news over the time since is the fact that I just couldn’t take it any more – War reporting got so dark I just didn’t want to do it anymore, and wanted something a little more lighthearted to write about each morning.

Regardless, a couple weeks ago I started writing a new article I just didn’t have the heart to finish. Entitled “The Dark Side of War,” it discussed the phenomenon of how every party which losses a War, conflict or battle has quite a sad story to tell. As such, it is then fairly easy for any side which losses a War or battle to present “evidence” or a story line casting the victorious party in a rather negative or disgusting light – especially in the age of smart phones and social media. For this very reason, it is perhaps more important then ever to be critical or vigilant over any/all War coverage we consume. Perhaps put a different way, to take everything with a grain of salt.

So, what exactly am I talking about and why take the time to explain any of this? Well, as it turns out, on May 18th 2019 a new chemical weapons report from the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons was leaked online exposing a false flag chemical weapons assault carried out at the hands of Syrian rebels, designed to make it look as though attack was actually launched by Bashar al-Assad.

Honestly, even if you are just hearing about this phenomenon for the first time here today, this is far from the first time Syrian rebels have done this. In fact, Syrian rebels are also known to have carried out false flag chlorine attacks in both Idlib and Aleppo. But lets not revisit ancient history – shall we? Instead, I would like to explain why people are doing this sort of thing in the first place.

To understand why, you first have to understand desperation. Imagine that you have been fighting a War for years on end, before realizing that you’re out of resources and your enemy has you just weeks away from full defeat. What would you do? As it turns out, especially in the age of social media, from Gaza to Syria, the losing sides in any/every battle have begun waging a propaganda War through the media – often times by showing grotesque or gruesome footage chronicling the aftermath of their defeats. Taken out of context, this could make any victorious party look like the bad guys – even if the losing factions were the aggressors all along.

After all, the Syrian Rebels are called “rebels” for a very real reason, they are the ones who rebelled against their Government and started this whole Civil War in the first place. Even though they are losing this War, don’t ever make the mistake of forgetting that no matter how much you may despise Bashar al-Assad, the Syrian rebels also have an awful lot of blood on their hands all the same.

Honestly, the more I start to write about this topic, the less I want to keep writing about it. It’s just hard not to begin to loose faith in the world. But, before wrapping up, what I want people to understand is what is actually going on here. Say for example in Palestine. Now, I for one am firmly behind the people of Palestine and support an end to Israel’s War in Gaza. But, even at that, I am also firmly aware of the propaganda campaigns being waged by Palestinians there – particularly during Israel’s assault on Gaza in 2014.

What you have to understand is that Palestinians know they have zero possibility of ever winning any War or Battle against Israel – at least by traditional means. Therefore, they have taken to unconventional means of waging warfare – Chealsae Manning’s leaks not withstanding. For example, one of Hamas’s tactics revolves around creating propaganda against Israel through social media – which is also why Israel has been trying to crack down on social media postings from Palestine so heavily over recent years. Usually this is done by showing the footage or pictures of dead, burned or bloody civilians – released for nothing other than pure shock value, to dehumanize their enemies actions.

For example, why do you think so many Palestinian civilians are lining up simply to be shot by Israel snipers? It’s because they want Israel to look as inhumane and extreme as possible in the media. Showing pictures of civilians with lost limbs, unarmed, losing those limbs due to their enemies certainly makes their enemies look extreme doesn’t it? But what you have to understand is that lining up to be shot is also extreme, just in a different context.

Now, for those of you whom might not be used to the Deep Web or DarkNet, or whom only get your news through any one of the 24 hours a day news channels, photo’s of dead people might seem pretty shocking or outrageous. But this is also the point. People are trying to offend you in hopes of falsely manipulating your opinion. But, the fact of the matter is that people die on both sides of every conflict. It just so happens that the losing side of any Battle or War just has a more tragic or bleak story to tell than its victors – and more evidence to show. However, it is important to understand that this does not make them any more justified in their campaigns, and it doesn’t even necessarily make them the victims either.

Often times, such as in the case of Syria’s rebels and/or Gaza’s Hamas, social media is being used as a weapon, in a last ditch effort to inspire more people around the world to sympathize with their losing effort or join their cause. In doing so, prolonging their battle/fight that much longer.

Anon Ghost Launches New Offensive Against The Israeli Government In Retaliation for Gaza Air Strikes

In response to Israel’s bombing campaign earlier this week, allegedly targeting Hamas cyber-actors plotting to carry out a cyber attack, setting a first of its kind precedent to kill someone for simply using a computer in a clear act of War, Anon Ghost has vowed to mount a new offensive against the Israeli Government for their actions. For example, over the course of the last 24-36 hours, Anon Ghost hackers have already taken half a dozen Israeli websites offline at different intervals – with more attacks promised on the way.

Its Not Just Israel, Hamas Has Begun Detained Hundreds In Gaza for Protesting Their Rule

(AI) – Hamas security forces’ violent crackdown against peaceful Palestinian protesters, activists, human rights workers – including an Amnesty International worker – and local journalists must be immediately halted and investigated, said Amnesty International. Hundreds of protesters have been subjected to beatings, arbitrary arrest and detentions, and torture and other forms of ill-treatment since 14 March, when Palestinians took to the streets across the Gaza Strip to protest against the rising cost of living and deteriorating economic conditions under the Hamas de facto administration.

Today, an Amnesty International Research Consultant, Hind Khoudary, has been detained and interrogated by the security forces of the Ministry of Interior for working with Amnesty International. Her interrogation lasted for three hours during which four male interrogators subjected her to ill-treatment. The interrogators used abusive language and warned her not to carry out human rights research and threatened to prosecute her for spying and working as a foreign agent.

The crackdown on freedom of expression and the use of torture in Gaza has reached alarming new levels. Over the past few days, we have seen shocking human rights violations carried out by Hamas security forces against peaceful protesters, journalists and rights workers,” said Saleh Higazi, Deputy Middle East and North Africa Director at Amnesty International. “It is clear that Hamas security forces are trying to stop human rights defenders from carrying out the vital work of documenting and reporting on the severe violations they are perpetrating during this ongoing violent and arbitrary crackdown. We are sending a clear message to the Gaza authorities today that we are watching and we will work to ensure that all those responsible for these violations are held to account.

The human rights violations perpetrated by Hamas forces against peaceful protesters, journalists, and human rights defenders in Gaza are the most severe for more than a decade.

Protesting hunger and taxation

The latest round of repression by Hamas began on 10 March 2019, when 13 activists planning demonstrations to protest the high cost of living in Gaza were arrested during a private meeting at a house belonging to the activist Jihad Salem al-Arabeed in the town of Jabalya, in the northern Gaza Strip. The arrest came after the group launched a social media campaign titled ‘The revolt of the hungry’ and ‘Down with price hikes,’ calling for a protest on Thursday, 14 March 2019 in Jabalya.

Security forces stormed into the house without an arrest warrant. The activists were subjected to torture and other ill-treatment in detention. On 12 March, they were released with a warning not to continue with their plans.

On the afternoon of 14 March 2019, Hamas security forces – some dressed in civilian clothes – violently attacked hundreds of peaceful demonstrators in Jabalya refugee camp, Deir al-Balah camp, al-Boreij camp and Rafah using sound grenades, batons, pepper spray, live ammunition and physical assaults.

Human rights workers and journalists targeted

On 15 March, Hamas forces raided a house in Deir Al-Balah camp belonging to a local journalist, Osamah Al-Kahlout. Inside the house were the Director of the Independent Commission for Human Rights (ICHR), Jamil Sarhan, and ICHR lawyer Baker Al-Turkmani. Both human rights workers, who had been monitoring the protests, were beaten and hospitalized and their mobile phones were confiscated. After identifying themselves to the security officers who raided the house, Sarhan and Turkmani were taken outside and repeatedly punched.

On 16 March, Hamas security forces in Gaza arrested a number of human rights defenders while they were working in the Al-Shujayya neighbourhood, east of Gaza city. The four reportedly detained were: Samir Al-Mana’ama, lawyer at Al Mezan Center for Human Rights (Al Mezan); Khaled Abu Isbetan, fieldworker at Al Mezan; Sabreen Al-Tartour, field worker at the Palestinian Center for Human Rights; and Fadi Abu Ghunaima, field worker at Al Dameer Association for Human Rights in Gaza.

Meanwhile, several journalists across Gaza were beaten, detained and were forbidden from documenting the demonstrations. Many journalists, lawyers and NGO workers were reportedly summoned for interrogation after recording testimonies on the conduct of the Hamas police.

The Hamas de facto administration must immediately launch an independent, thorough and transparent investigation into the unnecessary and excessive use of force, arbitrary arrest and detention, and torture and other ill-treatment by security forces. Where there is sufficient admissible evidence, suspected perpetrators should be prosecuted in fair trials,” said Saleh Higazi. “The authorities in Gaza have a duty to ensure that journalists and human rights defenders are free to carry out their work without threat, intimidation, or abuse; failure to protect such activities and deliberate interference in their work is a flagrant violation of international law.

Israeli Lobby Launches Online Campaign To Rally Support for Gaza Bombings

In response to the recent waves of death and destruction being dished out by Israeli forces in Gaza, the international Israeli lobby is attempting to launch an online campaign designed to organize support on behalf of the Israeli Government. Officially entitled #IsraelUnderFire and launched by activists working at, the operation asks citizens around the world to like, comment on and/or share any blog posts, articles or social media comments pertaining to the current state of affairs inside Gaza – mainly the air strikes of the last few days.

Organizers have sent out mail letters and emails en masse throughout various online channels, outlets and forums, asking all whom support Israel “to take action against anti-Israeli comments by supporting pro-Israeli comments” through likes, shares and supportive comments. In doing so, the Israeli lobby hopes to ensure that all of the “top comments” being read by independent social media users worldwide reflects a positive outlook on Israel and their current military operation. In doing so, they hope to leverage the international conversation/outlook in a decidedly pro-Israeli direction. has informed Israeli supporters to focus on all of the worlds most popular news services and social feeds, including the New York Times, NBC News, ABC News, Sputnik, Middle East Eye, Al Jazeera, CBS Morning News, 24France, the British Broadcasting System, Reuters, Washington Post, Associated Press and many more. In the picture provided below, you can see a small screen shot of the message/operation being distributed across the web.

For Example:

In the past Israel has accused Hamas and the Palestinian people of waging “propaganda Wars,” mainly surrounding the 2014 Gaza conflict, which saw the deaths of over 2,200 Palestinians, including +1,500 civilians – but only 64 Israeli soldiers. This is also why Israel is now doing what they are doing today, attempting to wage a propaganda War in their own right. However, it is important to see this information and the conflict for what it really is, and understand the real dynamics at play here. All Palestinians did in 2014 was release video documentaries of bomb sites and dead bodies, which obviously painted the whole affair in a decidedly negative light – something Israel never appreciated. But releasing these videos/images online is the only resources or weapons these people had to fight with at the time, which is exactly why they used them.

For example, in 2014 and on through today, it is very true that Hamas has launched thousands of “rockets” into Israel, and Israel has retaliated with “rockets” of their own. However, Palestinians are so poor and impoverished that they are essentially launching improvised versions of “fireworks.” Israel on the other hand has the worlds most advanced and sophisticated laser guided “missile” systems, including but not limited to the Iron Dome. So, technically speaking you can say that both sides are “launching rockets” at one another, but do not ever make the mistake of thinking this is an accurate depiction of what is really going on here.

Image result for hamas rocket vs israeli

If you need any more proof , have an active look at Israeli’s “Iron Dome” at work taking down those same Palestinian ‘rockets’ in mid flight…..

If you still need any more evidence as of the one sided-ness of the Israeli-Gaza conflict, below you will find a brief video documenting the area of Gaza pre-2014 and post. After watching it, you should also know that to this very day Gaza remains under military blockade by Israel, so no construction materials or relief has ever been able to find its way in to fix or repair damages/neighborhoods. While I am at it, you should also know that to this very day, Israel and the US have banned United Nations investigators from entering into and conducting investigations into War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity committed by Israeli forces in 2014. Among other things, this includes the use of White Phosphorus against civilian populations and the deaths of close to 500 children.

So, are you dumb enough to call this all just “propaganda” too, as the Israelite’s would like you to believe? Or do you now see how messed up a state of affairs this whole conflict is? There is a reason Israel does not want footage of Gaza being released to the public, there is a reason Israel bans international investigators and there is a reason why Israel is waging a new  informational warfare campaign in 2018. This is also why it is more important than ever to fight fire with fire; fight information with information.

This is why I am calling on all readers of this article and every online activists out there do exactly what Israel is attempting to do online, only for Palestine. Go to each of the largest corporate news websites, talk about the Palestinian conflict, leave your comments and show the world this conflict for what it really is, show/tell them what is really going on here. Take action against anti-Palestinian rhetoric, show your support of the oppressed people of Palestine and report extremist Israeli comments/content online. Support others taking action by liking their comments and sharing/re-distributing their material. The more people get engaged the more we can educate the world, the bigger a different we can make. #FreePalestine #GazaUnderFire #ZionismIsBlasphemy

How Palestinian Authorities are Oppressing Their Own Peoples

Yesterday Human Rights Watch released an investigative report entitled “‘Two Authorities, One Way, Zero Dissent:’ Arbitrary Arrest and Torture Under the Palestinian Authority and Hamas,“chronicling the conditions endured by Palestinian activists under the rule of Hamas. According to the report, Palestinian activists are routinely subjected to arrest and torture at the hands of their own Government. It is an interesting and unique look inside the current situation facing the people of Palestine, whom are essentially being persecuted from both sides – by Israeli authorities and Hamas.

At the present moment in time the Israeli Government refuses to recognize Palestinian as its own nation-state, demanding that Hamas be removed from Governance before Israel will ever begin to consider a two state solution. Moreover, the strict/prolonged military blockade of Gaza/Palestine was only enacted after Hamas continued to use imports to advance militaristic agendas, including the developments of weapons and fortification of underground tunnels. In other words, contrary to popular belief, as the report below outlines, Israel is not solely responsible for the human rights tragedy as it presently exists inside Palestine
